Mill

In 1370, in the earliest use of the name Hook (le hoke), Henry FitzPhilip Corkensis received a grant of three ploughlands (townlands) and a mill in Hook parish (Redmond 1897, 215), but the location of the mill is not known. According to the terrier or commentary of Hook parish in the Down Survey (1656-8) in NLI (ms 725; P 7384, N 6380) there is a mill at Churchtown, which would have been owned by Robert Redmond of the Hall (WX054-002----) in 1640 (Simington 1953, 172).
