What is recorded here

Freestanding cut-granite milestone, c.1850, on a triangular plan with inscriptions indicating distances to Maynooth and to Dublin. Road fronted on tarmacadam verge.
This milestone is an attractive, if subtle, item of street furniture that is often overlooked by the passer-by. The milestone is of considerable social and historical interest, attesting to the coaching era in Ireland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The milestone displays fine craftsmanship to the inscriptions that have retained a crisp intricacy.
