Middlebere Lake, part of the Arne RSPB Reserve in Dorset, has been an important site for bird conservation since the 1920s, when it was flooded to create a wetland habitat. It is associated with the early work of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in managing and protecting coastal wetlands for wildlife.
