What is recorded here

On the NE shoreline of Gooreen Island, in the intertidal zone. This deposit of limpet shells (0.3m N-S; 0.2m E-W) is visible at low tide in a layer of peat beneath a storm beach. The peat was exposed following the recent winter storms. The midden was brought to our attention by Mr. Michael Gibbons, Archaeologist, Clifden.
