What is recorded here
One Gleninagh midden is missing while the other lies buried beneath the southwestern graveyard wall. The visible ditch holds dead people and the hidden ditch holds dinner scraps, suggesting the church claimed both kinds of loss. Perhaps women cooked for travellers at the gate and dumped the shells in a corner nobody measured. The earth keeps what the church forgot, waiting for someone brave enough to dig beside the dead.
One of two shell middens (pers. comm. T. Coffey, 1994) in the ecclesiastical enclosure (CL002-008001-) at Gleninagh. This midden remains unlocated. The second midden (CL002-008005-) is located under the rectangular graveyard wall (CL002-008002-) in the SW of the ecclesiastical enclosure.
