Michael O'Shaughnessy

Michael O'Shaughnessy was born in a small cottage named Jointer in County Limerick, Ireland, on May 28, 1864. He left that quiet province for San Francisco, where he designed the Municipal Railway and Hetch Hetchy water system that still carry the city. The boy from a farming family became the engineer who helped build a coast-city machine, proving that distance cannot limit a clear mind.
