Forge founded prior to 1635 by Calcott Chambre I about a quarter of a mile from his castle at Carnew (WI047-009----). The ironworks probably continued to operate until the outbreak of the 1641 rebellion. (Loeber 1994, 288) The exact location of this monument is unknown. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
