McCracken (1957, 133) lists Ballysadare as a charcoal-burning ironworks in the 17th and 18th centuries when ore was brought to here from nearby Dromahaire, Co Leitrim. The precise location of this ironworking site is not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
