What is recorded here
No visible tomb remains in Ballypitmave, but the land still carries the name Giant's Grave. That is enough to know the place is not ordinary. People may have buried someone important there, or they may have named a dangerous spot and warned others away. Either way, the area has been marking death, size or taboo since before written history.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MEGALITHIC TOMB: GIANT'S GRAVE. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Megalithic tomb, dating to the Neolithic period. It is part of a tradition of prehistoric funerary monuments associated with early farming communities in Ireland.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
