What is recorded here
There is a description dated 1798 of a maypole erected at Harold's Cross (Tutty 1973, 71). It is marked on the 1st edition 6 inch sheet (1837). No visible trace.
This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
