Mass Rocks were used in secret by Catholics during periods of religious persecution, particularly in Ireland during the 17th and 18th centuries, when Catholic worship was outlawed. This site, like others, likely served as a place for clandestine Masses and as a focal point for local Catholic community gatherings.
