Mass-rock in Greaghlatacapple

Situated at the tip of a S-N spur on the N-facing slope of a hill. This is a subrectangular piece of rock outcrop (dims 6m N-S; 5m E-W at N; 2.5m E-W at S; H 0.5-1m) that is highest the SW corner where there is an indentation (dims 1.2m N-S; 0.7m) with a small shelf (H 0.7m) that serves as an altar. It is known as ‘Carraig na h-Altóra’ (Ó Gallachair 1957, 121) and was conserved in AD 2000 with a commemorative plaque. Mass is celebrated annually around the end of July.
