Man-made underground passage (Site of)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Under Mid Cork soil, two possible passages twist through ringfort 8403, one north and one southwest. They vanished from sight before the 1940 survey, leaving no entrance, chamber or chambered shadow for a person to judge. The earth kept the making, the shape and the purpose hidden.
In N half of ringfort (8403). No visible surface trace; depicted as 'site of' on 1940 OS 6-inch map. Second possible Man-made underground passage (9058) marked in SW quadrant of ringfort. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
