Man-made underground passage in Woodhouse (decies Without Drum By., Stradbally Par.)

Situated towards the top of a N-facing slope overlooking the W-E River Tay close to where it enters the sea at Stradbally Bay, which is c. 500m to the E. The capstone of a corbelled chamber was removed in 1981. The chamber has since been backfilled with clay and stones (OPW file). It is possibly the same site as that mentioned by Ryland (1824, 304). It is still open but inaccessible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
