What is recorded here

A collapsed underground chamber in the southeast of the Tinageragh ringfort leaves behind a shallow depression, evidence that people dug beneath the ancient earth. Power wrote about these passages in 1916, confirming they were not natural caves but human-made spaces. The chamber may have hidden tools, sheltered people from storms, or led somewhere forgotten. Its collapse did not erase the intent behind it. The diggers believed the ground could be shaped into a room, a tunnel, a secret path. That much still shows in the land.

In SE quadrant of ringfort (CO053-005---). Depression (0.8m N-S; 0.4m E-W; D 0.2m) may indicate position of collapsed Man-made underground passage chamber. Power (1916, 16) refers to 'Man-made underground passages' in this ringfort. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
