Man-made underground passage in Sleaty

Reference to a possible unlocated Man-made underground passage between Clopook fort (LA019-021001-) and Sleaty (Comerford 1886, vol. 3, 249-265). The precise location of this possible Man-made underground passage has not been identified. Described by Comerford as ' There lingers still in the locality a tradition that in ages past a saint used to retire to his distant church by a subterranean passage leading south, which is supposed to be still in existence' (Comerford 1886, vol. 3, 253). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran.
