Shanvally in County Mayo once held a man-made underground passage hidden inside a rath, though local tradition still whispers about the lost cave. The rath has been levelled, erasing the entrance and leaving behind only memory. People may have dug through solid earth to build a private chamber, a trading post or a refuge from storms. The passage vanished, but the story remains, waiting for someone to dig beneath the forgotten field.
