Scarteen in Muskerry East By. is a man-made underground passage hidden beneath a possible ringfort. A plough struck a flagstone and revealed a cave that later disappeared under soil. The passage may have served as a shelter, storage or ritual space for the people who built the ringfort. It is no longer visible, but the sudden appearance and quiet burial suggest a place kept private rather than forgotten.

In possible ringfort (CO061-066001-). Hartnett (1939, 208) recorded from local information 'a cave' found after plough struck flagstone; later filled in. No visible surface trace.
