Man-made underground passage in Rooaunmore (dunkellin By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

On a low ridge in pastureland. The entrance to a now blocked-up 'artificial cave' was visible in the SW corner of this field. According to local information, at one time, it was possible to descend into it for quite some distance (information from S. O'Callaghan 1987). A large hay-shed has since been built in this area of the field and no visible surface trace of it survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 June 2017
