What is recorded here
No. Underneath Reavouler, a hidden chamber waited for hands strong enough to break its ceiling. Men digging a ringfort in 1970 fell through into darkness, then buried the hole before danger could take them. The earth kept the chamber, but it also kept the memory of that sudden drop.
Discovered while levelling outer bank ringfort (CO133-024001-) c. 1970; large collapse occurred which was immediately infilled. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
