Man-made underground passage in Reagrellagh

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Under the levelled Reagrellagh ringfort in County Cork, a man-made passage descends into darkness. It may have served as a cellar, a refuge or a forgotten way of moving through the earth when storms closed the sky. The hole remains hidden beneath ordinary ground, waiting for someone curious enough to look for its entrance.
In levelled ringfort (CO061-055001-). Department of Archaeology files (UCC) record a Man-made underground passage here (March 1984). No further details. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
