What is recorded here

Under Philipstown, a man-made passage runs beside the old ringfort, local people call it a cave. Whether it is a hidden entrance, a collapsed cellar or a forgotten drainage cut is no longer certain. The earth above has smoothed the edges, but the hole remains a wound in the ground, waiting for someone brave enough to drop a stone and listen.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
