West Mayo, early 1900s: an open hole in the rath floor dropped into a drystone chamber, then people stopped mentioning it and the earth closed the mouth. Today a broken slab still pokes through the north-west grass like a tooth, waiting for somebody brave enough to lift it and remember what the dark was holding.

In a rath (MA063-036----). According to local information, there is a Man-made underground passage in the W half of the rath interior. It was accessible in the early 20th century, when a surface opening revealed a drystone-built chamber or passage. The opening was later infilled. When the rath was inspected in 1996, a large slab, possibly a displaced lintel, was visible protruding from the ground surface in the NW quadrant of the interior; this may mark the location of the Man-made underground passage.
