Under Cave Field in Newtownbabe, a man-made passage disappears into a hillock, local memory insisting it is a cave rather than a natural hollow. People may have dug through solid earth to hide goods, escape storms or simply reach the other side before roads existed. The field still carries the name Cave Field, preserving the shape of that forgotten choice.
