Man-made underground passage in Newtown (louth By.)

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Drystone-built Man-made underground passage consisting of a beehive chamber (diam. 2.3m, H 1.3m) with a passage (L 10m, Wth 0.7m, H 1m) running off to the N. A creep (L 0.5m, Wth 0.4m, H 0.6m) in the middle of the E side of the passage gives access to a sub-rectangular beehive chamber (L 1.4m, Wth 0.8m, H 0.8m).
