What is recorded here
There is a local tradition of a 'cave built of stone' known as the ‘fairy den’ at Mullans townland, which may be a Man-made underground passage (IFC Schools' MSS 946, 238-40: https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes). There is no confirmation of this source, and the precise location is not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of revision: 26 January 2018
