Under a ringfort on Mount Hillary in County Cork, at least two chambers still wait beneath the grass, joined by a narrow creepway. Dr Richard Caulfield crawled through that dark tube and mapped its shape before the exact spot faded from memory. The passage may have served as a cellar, a refuge or a hidden chamber for the people who built the rath. Whatever its purpose, it remains a small underground room waiting to be found again.

In ringfort (CO031-12001-). McCarthy (1977, 375) noted that Dr Richard Caulfield explored a Man-made underground passage in a rath on Mount Hillary. It consisted of at least two chambers joined by creepway. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
