Man-made underground passage in Meggagh West

On a W-facing slope in a narrow strip of rocky rough grazing in improved pasture. This Man-made underground passage (L 6m E-W) has modern openings at either end, but both were too confined to allow access when inspected in 1999. The W opening comprises a subrectangular hollow (1.1m E-W; 1m N-S; D 0.3-0.6m) with a shallow (D 0.25m) N-S orientated curving scarp just to its W. The hollow at the opposite, E end is smaller but much of the Man-made underground passage interior (upper int. Wth 1m; lower int. Wth 2m) with corbelled sidewalls was visible from there. Although totally grass-covered, roof lintels were visible at the E and W ends. There is a hut site (CL010-048003-) c. 57m to the E and a cashel (CL010-048001-) c. 68m to the NE.
