What is recorded here
No visible surface trace remains in Meenvane, yet a missing limestone slab once revealed a hidden chamber beneath the central ringfort. The absence of a marker does not erase the shape of the hole; it invites imagination about the people who covered it, forgot it or kept it secret.
Slab of limestone in centre ringfort (CO139-034001-) removed in past, giving access to chamber (Ryan 1946, 191). No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
