Maytown holds a man-made underground passage tucked inside one of three local ringforts. Power recorded the passages in 1940, but never named the exact fort, leaving the discovery suspended between possibilities. The absence of a final answer does not diminish the wonder; it widens it.

Power (1940, 21) records 'Man-made underground passages' in ringfort in this townland. Three ringforts (CO089-050---; CO089-051---; CO089-071---) known; which ringfort referred to is not certain.
