Man-made underground passage in Luggacurren

Within enclosure (LA025-005001-) on bed rock A cave (H 6 ft., Wth 4 ft.) is present in the N quadrant of the enclosure 200 ft. below the summit of the Dun. It's roof and floor are perfectly level and it forms a serpentine shape (O'Hanlon and O'Leary 1907, vol. 1, 341). No visible surface remains. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran.
