Man-made underground passage in Lissacresig

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

In pasture. This Man-made underground passage was discovered in 2005 when an opening (1m x 0.5m) resulted after the ground collapsed under the weight of a tractor wheel. The Man-made underground passage was inaccessible as the collapsed material made it impossible to enter the structure. A slight gap in the collapsed material made it possible to view two earth-cut chambers, one to the N and the other to the S. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
