Man-made underground passage in Leitrim (castlerahan By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Closed chambers, hidden stairs, forgotten rooms: the cave inside the rath is a man-made passage, not a random hole. Build the chamber, cut the stair, seal the door and keep the address out of every book. The clue is a cave inside a rath, not a vague cave near a field.
Tradition of a 'cave' within the interior of Leitrim rath (CV044-017001-) which is possibly a reference to a Man-made underground passage. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
