What is recorded here
Knockeenboy held a man-made underground passage beside its ringfort, but people backfilled the hole and erased the entrance. The earth swallowed the tunnel, leaving no crack, mound or marker for later curiosity. What remains is a absent shape, a hole in the story rather than a hole in the ground.
In pasture c. 40m SE ringfort (CO120-015001-). According to local information site of Man-made underground passage; subsequently backfilled. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
