What is recorded here

One chamber in aKnockbrack East field still stands inside an ancient fort. The chamber is a room cut into the rock, not a cave made by water. Its roof has fallen and its floor has buried, but the shape of the wall and the angle of the entry remain clear. The chamber is no longer a whole passage. It is the front room of a passage that has forgotten the rest of itself.

Circular enclosure KE021-104---- is situated SW of KE021-103----. It is marked on the 1841-42 and 1898 OS maps and shows up on the Geological Survey of Ireland's aerial photographs (1977). According to the Kerry Field Notes (1945) the Club discovered a Man-made underground passage in the shape of the letter 'L' in the centre of the fort. The Man-made underground passage (KE021-104001-) was much collapsed and filled, being used as a burial place for animals. However, all that survives today is an undulating field which may signify the position of the original fort. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’.
