Behind a holy well in Knockane, a man-made tunnel enters a sub-circular chamber nearly two metres high. The main passage splits into two, widens in places, and drops into blind nooks where rock has fallen. People may have walked these dark branches for rituals, hiding or simple curiosity, while the collapsed sections now keep some chambers hidden.

The Kerry Field Club visited this Man-made underground passage system in 1939. The Man-made underground passage system lies behind a holy well (908), and today access is gained by stepping over the well and proceeding through a tunnel which leads one into a chamber. The chamber is 1.82m high x 1.2m in diameter and is sub-circular. The main passage branches into two, which widen at several places. The tunnel has collapsed in places and many blind tunnels and nooks exist off the main passage. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
