Man-made underground passage in Kiltybegs (farney By) — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

Under the western edge of the Kiltybegs rath, a narrow passage cut through solid earth disappeared into darkness before anyone recorded it. People walked that far, perhaps carrying milk, tools or children, then turned back because the route stopped presenting itself. The entrance has closed or been forgotten, but the rath still holds the shape of a hole made for entry, not decoration.

There is local knowledge of an underground passage or Man-made underground passage opening in the interior of rath (MO031-060001-) WNW of the centre. It is now inaccessible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
