What is recorded here
Kilnafurrery holds a vanished underground passage inside its ringfort, lost after people filled the hole and erased the entrance. The earth closed the wound quickly, denying later curiosity the chance to follow the dark line further. What remains is a clean surface and a missing shape, forcing imagination to complete the passage instead of measurement.
In ringfort (CO046-053001-). According to local information a Man-made underground passage was discovered but was later filled in. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
