What is recorded here

Kilbarry holds a man-made passage inside a ringfort, waiting for someone brave enough to dig away the collapsed earth that sealed it in 1989. The ground gave way under machinery, not trespass, as if the place refused to show itself to heavy tools. Whatever the passage carries, it is still there beneath West Cork, patient and unbroken.
In ringfort (CO096-003---). Discovered April 1989. Ground collapsed under weight of machinery. Opening blocked with collapsed earth making access impossible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
