Man-made underground passage in Inchingerig

This Man-made underground passage was discovered in 1991 during the construction of a farmyard and buildings. It consisted of four earth-cut chambers, joined by creepways. Chamber 1 (min. c. 2m NW-SE; c. 1.4m NE-SW) has a creepway (Wth c. 0.4m) at its SE end leading in to chamber 2. Chamber 2 (1.5m NE-SW; 1.2m NW-SE) was not entered for safety reasons but a blocked-up construction shaft (Wth c. 0.6m) could be seen in its E side. A creepway (L c. 0.5m; Wth c. 0.6m) in its S wall leads into chamber 3 (c. 1m NW-SE; max. c. 0.9m NE-SW). A creepway (L c. 0.3m; Wth c. 0.5m) at the SE end of chamber 3 leads into chamber 4 (c. 3m N-S; c. 1.3m E-W). Bedrock is exposed in the floor of the N end of the chamber and there is a possible construction shaft in its N end.
