No visible entrance remains in Gortnakillew rath, County Cavan, but local information recalls a timber-lined tunnel appearing inside the ancient earthwork before it was buried again. The chamber may have served as a cellar, a refuge or a forgotten passage beneath the rath. Its disappearance did not erase it; it simply returned the strange made thing to the dark.

Situated within Gortnakillew rath (CV026-039001-). According to local information a timber-lined tunnel, presumably a Man-made underground passage, was uncovered in the interior some years ago. It has since been infilled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
