Man-made underground passage in Glantane — Report the wrong picture

Glantane is a vanished ringfort in County Cork, Ireland. A man-made cave lay in its centre, but its mouth was already closed when Grove White examined the site, and the ringfort has since been levelled until no surface trace remains. The 1842 map still marks a well at that same point, leaving the passage hidden beneath ordinary ground.

In centre of ringfort (CO041-052---). Grove White (1905-25, vol. 3, 331) noted that 'there is a cave in the centre of it, but its mouth is closed up'. Ringfort levelled; no visible surface trace of Man-made underground passage. The 1842 OS 6-inch map shows well in centre of fort.
