What is recorded here
Dunowen holds a man-made underground passage inside its ringfort, though no surface trace remains for anyone to point at. Local tradition keeps the hole alive beneath the soil, waiting for boots heavy enough to press it into view. The absence of a marker does not erase the passage; it merely removes the invitation.
In ringfort (CO144-042001-), according to local tradition. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
