Man-made underground passage in Drumagh (gallen By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

That is the only fact available in the supplied material.
Located in a ringfort (MA050-006---). A Man-made underground passage was discovered to NW of centre in the interior of the ringfort during land reclamation works (SRM file: OPW field notes 1980). The displacement of a roofing lintel revealed a passage (L 4.6m NE–SW; Wth c. 0.75m; H c. 1-1.2m) with walls of drystone construction and lintel roofing. The passage was blocked at its NE end by collapsed soil. A creep was visible in the end wall at the SW, opening into a rectangular chamber, but a blockage in the creep prevented access to chamber. According to the report, the access hole to the Man-made underground passage was covered over. No trace of the Man-made underground passage is now evident at ground level.
