Man-made underground passage in Dromore (duhallow By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Dromore (duhallow By.) holds a man-made underground passage inside its ringfort, yet no surface trace remains for others to find. Local tradition points southeast, where footfalls return hollow instead of dead, suggesting a hidden chamber beneath ordinary soil. The absence of visible entry does not erase the shape; it simply waits for patience, listening and the courage to dig where certainty ends.
Within ringfort (CO032-11501-). According to local information, tradition of underground passage outside bank to SE where ground sounds hollow. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
