Man-made underground passage in Curraghcrowly West

Discovered 1929, investigated by Somerville (1930, 1-15). Five rock-cut chambers with barrel-vaulted ceilings. Original entrance S end chamber 1, with 3 rock-cut steps leading from surface; access 1929 through roof chamber 3. Wall recesses in all chambers. Four air vents noted; deep narrow rock-cut trench extending 12.2m N from chamber 5, in base of which flat-bottomed trough noted (D 0.45m; Wth 0.45m). Infilled; no visible surface trace.
