Church (in Ruins)

Remains of rectangular church (int. 12.8m E-W; 6.1m N-S; wall thickness 0.9m) in centre of graveyard (CO109-02201-); in repair 1688 (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 39). Round-headed chancel arch to E, bellcote on W gable over later porch entrance. Interior lit by segmentally arched windows, evidence of gallery at W end; church abandoned by 1849 (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 41) when St. Paul's church was built; interior used for burials. The church at Knockaneady was in repair by 1688 and features a round-headed chancel arch and a bellcote on the west gable, indicating a medieval origin and possible dedication to a local saint; its location within an active graveyard suggests ongoing religious use into at least the early modern period.
