Under the western soil of Cross West, a hidden passage cuts through the earth beside an ancient ringfort. Wilde recorded the tunnel in 1872, yet only faint traces remain on its eastern edge today. The darkness preserves more than stone because memory itself has withdrawn into the ground. What the people built there is no longer visible, but the shape of the absence still points toward the purpose they intended.
