Man-made underground passage in Corrabally (ibane and Barryroe By., Ardfield Par.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Barryroe Bay and Corrabally hide a man-made passage beneath a ringfort, though no entrance or marker remains visible. Local tradition preserves the shape of that loss: a tunnel dug through living rock, then forgotten by the land. The absence is not emptiness; it is a doorway waiting for someone to stop looking for a road and start listening for a breath.
Local tradition of Man-made underground passage in ringfort (CO135-087001-). No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
