Man-made underground passage in Coolmucky (condons and Clongibbon By., Litter Par.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

No visible surface trace, and inside a moated site, the ground still holds a shadow of a passage. That is the whole shape of the claim: a hidden way, not a room, not a chamber, not a grand claim. The moat belongs to the site, the stones belong to the doubt, and the underground part belongs to imagination until proven otherwise.
In moated site (CO035-04702-). 'Some slabs of stone on ground within fort may be Man-made underground passage' (UCC). No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
